The aim of this study was to evaluate serum zinc and copper concentrations in patients with epilepsy. Materials and Methods: This study was done in 2006. A total ofsixty patients (25 males, 35 females; mean age 22.43±1.18 years) with epilepsy and 60 age-matched healthy subjects (25 males, 35 females; mean age 25.27±1.091 years) enrolled in this study. This study was approved by the local ethics. Serum concentrations of Zn and Cu assessed for all subjects in both groups with an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Results were demonstrated as Mean± SEM for Cu (μg/lit) and for Zn (μg/dl). The results compared by unpaired t-test and when p<0.05, the differences considered to be significant. Results: Mean copper level was 947.98±30.39 μg/lit and 967.41±28.25 μg/lit in the case and control group, respectively. The serum concentration of zinc was 86.81±1.55 μg/dl in patients and 94.48 ± 11.11 in the control group μg/dl. The differences between the two groups was insignificant (p>0.05). Conclusion: In contrast with some other studies which showed a difference in serum concentrations of Cu and Zn in epileptic patients, our data demonstrated that concentrations of serum zinc and copper in epileptic patients are not statistically different from the control group. Therefore, it is suggested that serum levels of Zn and Cu are not the strong determinant factors involved in inducing epilepsy; thus, it can be concluded that epileptic episodes in human may not be related to the serum levels of both trace elements Cu and Zn.}, keywords = {Copper,Epilepsy,zinc}, title_fa = {بررسی میزان مس و روی سرم در بیماران مبتلا به صرع}, abstract_fa = {مقدمه: جهت کشف روش درمانی مؤثر برای بیماری صرع شناخت اتیولوژی آن غیر قابل اجتناب است. در این مطالعه سعی شده است نقش فلزات کمیاب سرم از قبیل روی و مس در ایجاد این بیماری بررسی شود. روش کار: این مطالعه مورد - شاهدی در پاییز و زمستان 1385 در درمانگاههای اعصاب دانشگاه علوم پزشکی مشهد انجام شده است.60 بیمار (25 مرد و 35 زن با میانگین سن 18/1±43/22) مبتلا به صرع تحت درمان و60 فرد سالم همسان شده از نظر سنی و جنسی با گروه بیمار (25 مرد و 35 زن با میانگین سنی 091/1±27/25) در این مطالعه شرکت کردند. میزان مس و روی سرم هر دو گروه با استفاده از روش جذب اتمی تعیین گردید و به صورت میانگین ± انحراف معیار محاسبه و غلظت سرمی روی و مس با استفاده از روش تی تست مقایسه گردید. نتایج: اگر چه سطح سرمی روی و مس در گروه بیمار کمتر از سطح سرمی این عناصر در گروه کنترل به دست آمد، لیکن تفاوت ها معنی دار نبود. میانگین غلظت مس در بیماران (lit µg/ )39/30±98/947 در برابر 25/28±41/967 در گروه کنترل به دست آمد و میانگین غلظت روی در بیماران ( dl µg/) 55/1±81/86 در برابر 11/11±48/94 در گروه کنترل اندازه گیری گردید. اگر چه مقدار مس و روی در سرم خون بیماران اندکی کمتر از گروه کنترل می باشد اما تفاوت ها از نظر آماری معنی دار نیست. نتیجه گیری: بر خلاف آنچه در مطالعات قبلی گزارش شده است، سطح سرمی مس و روی در گروه بیماران تحت درمان اندکی کمتر از گروه کنترل بود، لیکن یافته های این پژوهش تفاوت معنی داری را در غلظت سرمی مس و رویبیماران صرعی نشان نداد و لذا نمی توان حملات صرعی را به تغییرات سطح سرمی این عناصر نسبت داد.}, keywords_fa = {مس,روی,صرع}, url = {https://mjms.mums.ac.ir/article_5518.html}, eprint = {https://mjms.mums.ac.ir/article_5518_2a37764d211fa3852f845e3f1bc83938.pdf} }
