The Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on Clinical Symptoms and Impulsivity of Mothers of Children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder

Abstract

Abstract
Introduction: This study examined the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on clinical symptoms and impulsivity in mothers of children with oppositional defiant disorder was conducted.
Methods: This study was a semi-experimental (Pretest- post test plan the unequal control group) and to the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) based on clinical symptoms and impulsivity of mothers of children with oppositional defiant disorder. the study population included all mothers of children 6 to 12 years old with oppositional defiant disorder in the city of Mashhad in 2016, that 24 of them voluntarily selected by convenience sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (12 people). in this study, used a DASS-21 to measure clinical syndrome and impulsivity scale to measure impulsivity. after the formation of groups, was conducted. (ACT) in 8 sessions of 90 minute. upon completion of the training program, from both groups were post test. Data for the analysis of covariance was used.
Results: Data analysis showed that "act" reducing clinical symptoms (depression, anxiety and stress) and impulsivity among children with oppositional defiant disorder (P>0/05).Conclusion: The results indicate that acceptance and commitment therapy is effective on clinical symptoms and impulsivity in mothers of children with oppositional defiant disorder.
