Abstract
Introduction: Obesity and overweight as a chronic and very common disorder that is directly and indirectly associated with various diseases, is one of the important fields of study in health psychology. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of emotion regulation strategies on irritability and self-control in women with obesity.
Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study (pre-test-post-test with control group). The statistical population of this study consists of all girls referred to nutrition clinics in Mashhad in 2019. The sample of the study was 30 girls referred to one of the nutrition clinics in Mashhad who had a high body mass index, who were selected by attending the clinic by available sampling method and with their consent. At this stage, the irritability and self-control questionnaire was administered to the subjects as a pre-test. Then the experimental group; Treatment interventions received emotion regulation strategies. At the end of the treatment sessions, the research tool was taken as a post-test. Analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data.
Results: The results of covariance analysis of emotion regulation strategies on irritability and self-control in obese individuals showed a significant difference between the experimental group in self-control and irritability scales (P <0.05).
Conclusion: The results showed the effectiveness of treatment of emotion regulation strategies on irritability and self-control in people with high body mass index.
