Introduction: Research has shown that there is a correlation between diabetes and psychological disorders such as anxiety and stress, so; The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of stress coping techniques and self-regulatory strategies on anxiety and stress in diabetic patients..
Methods: The method was quasi-experimental research and pre-test-post-test design with a control group and the statistical population included 45 diabetic patients referred to Bushehr Diabetes Center. The statistical population was selected by purposive sampling with random substitution and divided into experimental (n = 15) and control (n = 15) groups. Diabetic patients in the experimental groups were trained in stress management techniques and self-regulatory strategies for 8 sessions of 90 minutes using the McNamara and Pinterridge protocol, and the follow-up phase was performed two months after the treatment intervention. Data were analyzed using covariance.
Results: teaching stress management techniques and self-regulatory strategies has a significant effect on reducing anxiety and stress in diabetic patients and training stress management techniques has a greater effect on anxiety and stress in diabetic patients. Findings in the follow-up phase also showed that therapeutic interventions were effective in controlling anxiety and stress in diabetic patients.
Conclusion: The results indicate that training stress management techniques and self-regulatory strategies can significantly reduce anxiety and stress in diabetic patients.
