Introduction: Physiological chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis can reduce the resilience and mental coherence of patients. According to this the present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of psychological capital training on psychological resilience and sense of coherence of people with multiple sclerosis.
Methods: The research method was semi experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group and a 3 month follow-up phase. The statistical population of the study included people with multiple sclerosis who referred to health centers and clinics in Isfahan city in the first six months of 2022. 35 patients with multiple sclerosis were selected through purposive sampling method and randomly accommodated into experimental (18 people) and control groups (17 people). The experimental group received ten ninty-minute sessions of psychological capital training during ten weeks. The applied questionnaires included Psychological Resilience Questionnaire (PRQ) and Sense of Coherence Questionnaire (SCQ). The data from the study were analyzed through mixed ANOVA method via SPSS23 software.
Result: The results showed that psychological capital training has significant effect on the psychological resilience (F=42.59; Eta=0.56; P<0001) and sense of coherence (F=56.83; Eta=0.63; P<0001) of people with multiple sclerosis.
Conclusion: According to the findings of the present study it can be concluded that psychological capital training can be used as an efficient method to improve psychological resilience and sense of coherence of people with multiple sclerosis through applying the mechanisms such as optimism, self-efficacy, resilience and hope.
