Evaluating the effect of self-care interventions in increasing preventive behaviors of multiple sclerosis (MS): a systematic review

Abstract
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and progressive disease of the central nervous system, since MS does not have a definitive cure, it is necessary for those suffering from it to adapt and find harmony with their chronic disease in order to be able to fulfill their duties and responsibilities. The first step in helping patients to better care and manage their disease is to perform self-care behaviors. In this study, our aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of self-care interventions in increasing preventive behaviors of disease progression in MS patients.
Materials and Methods:
The literature search was done using four databases (PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of Science). The current review of all studies from the beginning to 2022/02/19 in national and international journals on the topic of self-care in MS patients was published, includes The search strategy was carried out using the medical title thesaurus (MeSH) and related keywords including multiple sclerosis, self-care.
Results:
A total of 13 studies including the data of 802 patients met the inclusion criteria. We found that the Orum model is the most commonly used model for the delivery of self-care interventions.
Conclusion:
The results of this study show that the design and implementation of educational programs focusing on self-care skills can improve patients' sense of independence and competence and their ability to cope with problems related to the disease, their adaptability skills, especially when interacting with others. Increase.
