Comparison of the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment-based therapy and intensive and short-term dynamic psychotherapy on emotional regulation of people with irritable bowel syndrome

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment-based therapy and intensive and short-term dynamic psychotherapy on emotional regulation of people with irritable bowel syndrome. Method: The research method was semi-experimental in terms of practical purpose and in terms of data collection with a pre-test and post-test design with an unequal control group. The statistical population of the study included all patients with irritable bowel syndrome over 20 years old in Shiraz city in 2022. 45 people were selected from the statistical population using the purposeful sampling method and then randomly assigned to the first experimental group (15 people), the second experiment (15 people) and the control group (15 people). The research tool included the Gratz (2004) emotional regulation difficulty scale questionnaire. Result: The findings showed that both short-term intensive psychodynamic intervention and treatment based on acceptance and commitment increased emotion regulation in irritable bowel syndrome patients (p<0.05). Also, the findings of the research indicated that there is a significant difference between intensive short-term psychodynamic therapy and treatment based on acceptance and commitment, and short-term and intensive psychodynamic therapy is a more effective method in increasing emotion regulation. be (p<0.001). Conclusion: According to the findings of this research, both interventions, especially short-term intensive psychodynamic therapy, can be used to increase the emotional regulation of patients with irritable bowel syndrome, along with other therapeutic interventions.
