The effectiveness of Glasser's reality therapy on negative emotions and marital self-regulation of women with marital conflicts referring to counseling centers

Abstract
Introduction: The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of Glaser's reality therapy on negative emotions and marital self-regulation of women with marital conflicts referring to counseling centers.
Methods: The semi-experimental research method was of pre-test and post-test type with a control group and a one-month follow-up period. The statistical population included all women who referred to counseling centers in Isfahan city in the second quarter of 1402, who were selected in an available manner. In order to select the sample, 30 women were randomly selected from among the women who scored higher than the average in the marital conflicts questionnaire and met the other conditions for entering the research and were willing to participate in the research, and in the next step, they were randomly selected into experimental groups (15 people) and control (15 people) were assigned. The experimental group received eight sessions of 90 minutes (one session per week) of reality therapy (Glasser, 2005) and the control group remained on the waiting list. The data collection tool in the pre-test, post-test and follow-up phases included the behavioral self-regulation questionnaire for effective relationships (Wilson et al., 2005) and the negative affect scale (Watson et al., 1988).
Results:  In order to review and analyze the research data, statistical package software in social sciences (version 23) and repeated measures method were used. The results showed that Glasser's reality therapy had a significant effect on marital self-regulation and negative emotions of women with marital conflicts (P<0.01). The stability of the effect of the obtained results was maintained in the one-month follow-up phase (P<0.01).
Conclusion: It can be said that Glasser's reality therapy is an effective approach for improving negative emotions and increasing marital self-regulation in women with marital conflicts.
