Efficacy of Cognitive-Behavioral Stress Management Training on the Stress and Entrapment of Mothers of Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral stress management training on the stress and entrapment of mothers of children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in Zahedan.
Methods: The present study was a semi-experimental, pre-test and post-test with the control group that was conducted in 2018 and the statistical population of all children with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in Zahedan. Sampling was the convenience in this study. So, among the children who were referred to the counseling centers with their mothers, 34 children were selected after the Conner's overactive diagnostic scale, and then the mothers of these children were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. The members of both groups (mothers of children with ADHD) completed the sense of entrapment and parental stress index before the intervention. Cognitive-behavioral stress management training program was conducted in a nine-hour sessions group and two months in the experimental group. The control group did not receive any training, and in the final session, the post-test was performed for both groups. To analyze the data, Shapiro Wilk test, Levene's test, Box test, Lambda Wilcox and covariance analysis was used by using SPSS-20 software.
Result: The findings of this study showed that cognitive-behavioral stress management training improves the stress and entrapment of mothers of children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. The difference in the score in the experimental and control groups was significant (p <0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the research on the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral stress management training, this method can be used to reduce the mothers' psychological problems of this group.
