Abstract
Introduction: Staying away from the family surroundings and lack of family support during old age can cause many problems for the elderly living in the nursing home; therefore, it is necessary to seek to identify and strengthen factors that reduce the vulnerability of the elderly to these problems. Therefore this study was done aimed to evaluation the effectiveness of spiritual-religion interventions based Islamic teaching on the feelings of rejection and defeat in the elderly referred to the nursing homes by their children.
Methods: Design of this study was semi-experimental type as pretest-posttest with control group.Statistical population consisted of all elderly referred to the nursing homes (by their children) in district 4 of Tehran in 2019.The sample studied were all 32 elderly people who were selected through convenience sampling method and were divided randomly into two groups- under training and control and members of the experimental group received spiritual-religion interventions.For collection data was used from Rejection Perception Scale and Defeat Feeling Questionnaire. Data Analyzing was conducted with ANCOVA and SPSS-22.
Results: The results showed that spiritual-religion interventions based have significant effect on rejected feeling (F= 63.52, p<.05) and defeated feeling (F= 130.54, p<.05).
Conclusion: According to the findings this study, spiritual-religion interventions based Islamic teaching can be an effective clinical method to decrease the feelings of rejection and defeat in the elderly referred to the nursing homes by their children. The results of this research can have many practical implications.
