The effectiveness of compassion-focused therapy on attachment style, marital adjustment, and social adjustment in drug abusive men

Introduction                                                                                                                                          
Addiction has been recognized as one of the most important social, economic and health problems of the present century, the consequences of which are considered a serious threat to human society and the need to pay more attention to it is felt, so It deals with attachment style, marital adjustment, and social adjustment in male drug abusers.                                                                                                  
Method                                                                                                                                                      
The present study was a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest with a control group. The statistical population of this study was all men with drug abuse. The sample consisted of 30 male drug abusers who were selected by available sampling method and tested in two groups of 15 people. The experimental group received compassion-focused therapy, but the control group did not receive any treatment. Data collection tools were Hazen & Shaver Attachment Style Questionnaire (1987), Spaniard DAS Marital Adaptation (1976) and California Social Compatibility CPI (1953) and were analyzed using SPSS-23 statistical software and analysis of covariance.                                                   .
Results                                                                                                                                                     
The results showed that compassion-focused therapy had a significant effect on attachment style, marital adjustment and social adjustment in drug abusers (p <0.001) and the effect size in this study was 0.453, which indicates Of these, 45.7% of the difference in the posttest scores of the variables of attachment style, marital adjustment and social adjustment of the subjects in the experimental group was related to the effectiveness of compassion-focused treatment.                                                         
Conclusion                                                                                                                                             
Based on the findings of this study, compassion-focused therapy is an effective treatment to address individual and social problems of drug abusers, and interventions based on this approach can be effective in improving their relationships with their families and other social relationships. This treatment in medical centers for such patients and patients with other types of diseases and mental disorders can be effective in improving the health and well-being of the community.
