Abstract

Abstract
Introduction: Obesity affects appetite control and Ghrelin is a peptide of 28 amino acids, is secreted by the stomach and plays an important role in energy balance and obesity. The purpose of this study was to Compare the effect of aerobic training and use of orlistat on Plasma Acylated Ghrelin, Insulin and Glucose levels in obese men.
Methods: forty-eight obese males (With a mean age: 21.56±2.14, BMI: 33.91±3.21) participated in this study. The subjects were divided into four groups: orlistat-induced weight loss (n=12), exercise-induced weight loss (n=12), orlistat plus exercise-induced weight loss (n=12) and control (n=12). Subjects of orlistat-induced weight loss and orlistat plus exercise-induced weight loss groups three daily 120 mg orlistat capsules after each meal and consumed for eight weeks. aerobic training program consisted of running 55 to 60 percent target heart rate for 25 minutes on a treadmill in first week that the 75% target heart rate for 45 minutes in the eighth week. The levels of plasma ghrelin and insulin were measured by ELISA method before and after 8 weeks.
Results: Finding show that the experimental groups a significant increase in acylated ghrelin a significant decrease in insulin and glucose showed (P =0/001).
Conclusion: It seems aerobic exercise and taking Orlistat reduces the body's energy reserves and increased levels of acylated ghrelin secretion, resulting in stimulation of food intake and energy balance.
