Abstract

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness training on reducing relapse syndrome in methamphetamine abusers.
Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design with a 6-month follow-up phase. The statistical population of the study included all men abusing methamphetamine who referred to the Addiction Treatment Center in Kermanshah in 1397-98. By available sampling method, 30 people were selected and randomly assigned to two groups (mindfulness treatment, 15 people and Marix treatment, 15 people). Research instruments included a researcher-made demographic characteristics checklist and the Gorsky (1987) Addiction Relapse Warning Questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, repeated measures variance and Ben Foroni post hoc test.
Results: The results showed that mindfulness therapy and matrix therapy in the post-test and follow-up stages had a significant effect on reducing relapse and its dimensions (feeling, thoughts, attitude and behavior). The results of Ben Foroni post hoc test also showed that mindfulness treatment was more effective than matrix treatment in reducing recurrence of consumption and its dimensions in different stages of assessment (P <0.05).
Conclusion: By using mindfulness therapy, we can have a positive effect on reducing relapse in methamphetamine abusers.
