The structural model of the quality of life of women with breast cancer based on D-type personality with the mediating role of disease perception

Abstract

Introduction: Women with breast cancer have an unfavorable quality of life compared to normal women. The aim of the present study was to investigate the structural model of the quality of life of women with breast cancer based on type D personality with the mediating role of perception of the disease.
Materials and methods: In this applied study, descriptive information of women with breast cancer referred to Tajrish Martyrs Hospital and Azar Clinic in Tehran in 2018-2019 was collected. The sample size was determined to be 440 people. Data collection tools included demographic questionnaire of quality of life (EORTC QLQ-BR23), personality type D scale and short form disease perception questionnaire (IPQ-Short form).
Results: the variable path coefficient of type D personality on the perception of the disease of women with breast cancer is 0.578 and the t-statistic is 7.034, the variable path coefficient of the perception of the disease on the quality of life of the studied patients is 0.471 and the t-statistic is The value of 3.055 and finally the variable path coefficient of type D personality on the quality of life of women with breast cancer was found to be 0.523 and also the t-statistic was found to be 4.120, all of which had a significant effect.
Conclusion: Type D personality with the mediating role of perception of the disease affects the quality of life of women with breast cancer and reduces the quality of life in these patients.
