Mediating role of marital satisfaction in relation to stress associated with infertility and emotional distress in infertile women referring to infertile clinics

Abstract

Introduction
The present study aims at sheeding light on the mediating role of marital adjustment in relation to infertility –related stress and emotional distress among infertile women and was conducted in Infertility Clinic of Esfahan.
Materials and Methods
Therefore, regarding the principles of entering and exiting from the research, 183 participants were selected among the infertile women in Shahid Beheshti Infertility Center who all answered Newton `s Fertility Problem Inventory, Spinner`s Marital Adjustment Inventory, Beck`s Depression Inventory and Spielberger`s State-Trait Anxiety Inventory as research tools.
Results
The results showed that marital adjustment is a partial mediator of the effect of stress associated with infertility on emotional distress. In other words, stress associated with infertility increases emotional distress, and this effect increases with infertility in spite of marital adjustment.
Conclusion
Infertility-related stress increases emotional distress and the impact will increase with a lower level of marital adjustment.
