Abstract

Introduction: Vitamin D3 reduce the risk of viral infections and Zinc deficiency disrupt the function of the immune system of patients. The purpose of research was to investigate the effect of resistance training and vitamin D and zinc consumption on the levels of lymphocytes in male athletes.
Materials & Methods: In this semi-experimental research, 32 male athletes ( 20 to 30 years) after receiving two doses of Sinopharm vaccine were voluntarily selected and randomly divided into four groups(n=8): control, resistance training, vitamin D and zinc, resistance training + vitamin D and zinc. The training protocol was implemented for six weeks, three sessions per week with intensity (70% of 1RM in the first week and increasing to 90% of 1RM in the last week). The supplement groups received vitamin D, 50,000 IU for 6 weeks/week, and 5 mg/kg zinc for 6 weeks 5 days a week. Blood samples were taken before and after the training program . The statistical method of multivariate covariance analysis was used at the significance level (P ≥ 0.05).
Results: The mean values of TCD4 and TCD4/TCD8 in the training group decreased and increased in the supplement and training + supplement groups, which were significant compared to the control group (P = 0.003). TCD8 in the experimental groups increased but it was not significant (P=0.65).

Conclusion: performing six weeks of resistance training along with vitamin D and zinc intake improves the performance of the immune system against viral pathogens and increases the effectiveness of the vaccine.
