Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study was the effectiveness of schema therapy on emotional regulation, worry and anxiety of female students of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz.
Methods: The statistical population in the present study was all female students of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz which were about 9000 students. Among the students who received the lowest scores in the Garnefski et al.'s (2001) Emotional Regulation Questionnaire, the Penn State Zinbarg & Barlow (1990) Worry Questionnaire, and the Anxiety Scale in the Lovibond & Lovibond Depression, Anxiety, and Stress scale (1995), 60 people were selected and assigned to experimental group (30 people) and control group (30 people) by simple random sampling. In this study, the semi-experimental research method of pre-test, post-test design with control group was used. Therapeutic intervention (Schema therapy in 9 sessions- each session was an hour) was performed for the experimental group. At the end of the intervention, both groups completed the Penn state, Depression, anxiety and stress and Emotional regulation questionnaires. Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance and homogeneity of variance.
Results: Findings showed that schema therapy has a positive effect on emotional regulation, worry and anxiety on female students of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz with p≤0/05.
Conclusion: Based on the results, schema-therapy method should be used to regulate emotions and reduce anxiety and anxiety of female students.
