Introduction: This research was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between the dynamics of the family environment and emotional failure with a tendency towards extramarital relationships in women applying for divorce in Babolsar city.
Methods: This is a descriptive correlational research, and the statistical population of the research is all 130 women aged 20 to 40 who referred to 4 pre-divorce counseling centers in Babolsar city in 1401. According to the table of Karjesi and Morgan and with the possibility of incomplete questionnaires, 100 people were selected using the available method. In this research, three questionnaires were used including: Whatley's (2006) Extramarital Relationship Tendency Scale, Kim and Kim's (2007) Family Environment Dynamics Questionnaire, and Bagbi et al.'s (1994) Emotional Failure Questionnaire. The statistical method of the research was Pearson correlation and stepwise regression.
Results:  The findings showed that there is a significant negative relationship between the dynamics of the family environment and the tendency to have extramarital relationships at the 0.01 level, and there is a significant positive relationship between emotional failure and the tendency to have extramarital relationships at the 0.01 level.  (P≥0.001).
Conclusion: It seems that the dynamics of the family environment and emotional inadequacy separately had the ability to significantly predict the tendency towards extramarital relationships.
