Abstract

Purpose: The present study was conducted aiming to investigate the effectiveness of group narration therapy on the resilience and depression symptoms of the mothers of the children with hearing damage. Method: The present study was quasi-experimental with pretest, posttest, control group design and two-month follow-up stage. The statistical population of the present study included 96 mothers of the children with hearing damage who referred to training centers for the children with hearing damage in 2018-19 in the town of Shahrekord. 40 mothers were selected through voluntary sampling method and they were randomly accommodated into experimental and control groups (each group of 20 mothers). Three mothers from the experimental group and two mothers from the control group withdrew participating in the study after the start of the intervention. The experimental group received twelve ninety-minute sessions of the intervention of training narration therapy (Lopez, et al, 2014) during three months. The applied questionnaires in this study included resilience questionnaire (Conner, Davidson, 2003), and depression questionnaire (Beck et al, 1996). The data from the study were analyzed through repeated measurement ANOVA method. Findings: The results showed that group narration therapy has significant effect on the resilience and depression symptoms of the mothers of the children with hearing damage (p<0.001) in a way that this therapy succeeded in leading to the improvement of resilience and and decreasing depression symptoms of negative emotion in the mothers of the children with hearing damage.
