Introduction: The developmental period of adolescence is usually associated with changes in mental and emotional conditions. Based on this, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of emotional management training on ineffective schemas and assertiveness of adolescents in the second year of high school.
Methods: The current study was a semi-experimental application with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the present study was formed by the adolescents of the second secondary school of Fatemeh Al-Zahra School in Borkhar region in the first six months of 2023, and their number was equal to 325 people. In order to carry out the present study, 30 adolescent were selected by the purposeful sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (15 adolescent in the experimental group and 15 adolescent in the control group). The adolescents in the experimental group received eight sessions of emotional management training during eight weeks. The applied questionnaires in this study included Ineffective Schemas Questionnaire (ISQ) and Assertiveness Questionnaire (AQ). The data from the study were analyzed through Multivariate Covariance via SPSS23 statistical software.
Results:  The results showed that emotional management training has had effect on ineffective schemas (p<0.0001) and assertiveness (p<0.0001) in adolescents in the second year of high school.
Conclusion: Based on the present results, emotional management training using techniques such as assessing emotional vulnerability, interpersonal skills training, changing cognitive evaluations and changing the behavioral and physiological consequences of emotion can be an efficient method to reduce ineffective schemas and used to improve adolescent assertiveness.
