Abstract

Introduction: Given that the emotional experience of Spouse betrayal has a retrospective nature and can cause many cognitive and emotional disturbances in daily life, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy on rumination and the quality of life of married women who have experienced spouse betrayal.
Methods: The research method was semi-experimental with a “pre-test, post-test” design and with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all the betrayed women who referred to counseling clinics in the 10th district of Tehran in 1403. Among these people, 30 people were selected in a purposeful way and according to the entry criteria, and they were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group (15 people in each group). Research tools included Nolen-Hoeksma and Moreau's ruminative response scale and World Health Organization's quality of life questionnaire. The experimental group received the emotion-oriented treatment program in 8 90-minute sessions. Data analysis was done using SPSS-26 software and one-way analysis of variance test, after considering statistical assumptions.
Results:  The results showed that emotional therapy is significantly effective on rumination and quality of life (p<0.05). The results showed that according to the difference in the averages of rumination and quality of life, the scores from the pre-test to the post-test decreased and increased respectively. Also, there is a significant difference between the post-test and follow-up mean of rumination and quality of life of the experimental group (p<0.001). The difference between pre-test and post-test rumination and quality of life in the control group is not significant (p=0.522). Also, the difference between the post-test and follow-up mean of rumination and quality of life of the control group is not significant (p=0.906).
Conclusion: According to the results of the research, emotion-focused therapy can be used to help rumination and the quality of life of married women who have experienced Spouse infidelity. In order to increase the external validity, it is suggested that more research Should be conducted.
