Abstract

Objective: The present study aimed to compare suicidal ideation and psychopathic characteristics in women and men with substance dependency. Method: The present research design is post-event (causal-comparative). The sample consisted of 112 substance abusers (56 females and 56 males) from addiction treatment camps in Guilan province that were selected based on available sampling according to the inclusion criteria. In this study, Beck Suicidal Ideation Scale (BSSI) and Levinson Psychopathy Questionnaire (LSRP) were used. The collected data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance and SPSS-26 software. Results: Data analysis showed that there is a significant difference between suicidal ideation in women and drug-dependent men and there is no significant difference between psychopathic characteristics in women and men dependent on substances. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, therapists and counselors who deal with substance dependents are recommended to pay attention to suicidal thoughts and psychopathic characteristics of these patients, because knowing about these variables can help to provide better and more appropriate services to these patients.
