Abstract

Introduction: Obesity has become a serious concern for public health, which will lead to many risk factors; This research was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of schema therapy on eating behaviors, anxiety and weight loss of obese people.
Method: The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group with a follow-up test period. From the statistical population of obese patients in the 2nd region of Tehran city in 1400, 45 samples were selected as available and randomly replaced in two experimental and control groups, and schema therapy was applied to the experimental group. The required findings were collected using the questionnaire of eating behaviors (Van Strein et al., 1986), anxiety (Spielberger et al., 1970) and a weight measuring device and were analyzed using variance analysis.
Results: The findings of the research showed that the average scores of the post-test and the follow-up test of eating behaviors, anxiety and weight decreased in the experimental group, and the results of variance analysis showed that schema therapy was effective in improving the eating behaviors, anxiety and weight of obese patients. (p < 0.01).
Conclusion: It is suggested to use schema therapy to improve eating behaviors, anxiety and weight loss of obese people.
