Abstract

Background:The purpose of this research was to investigate the mediating role of dependence and non-dependence on the field in the relationship between personality traits and emotional intelligence with nurses' mental health. Materials and Methods: The current research was descriptive-correlational and of the type of structural equations and modeling. The statistical population includes nurses from Shiraz hospitals and were selected during the period of 2022-2023. And the sample size using the table of Gorjesi and Morgan (1970) including 200 nurses from different hospitals in Shiraz, who were selected by cluster sampling. The measurement tools included McGarry's neo-Costa questionnaire (1985), Bradbury and Graves' emotional intelligence questionnaire (2004), and Leviband's mental health questionnaire (1995) and the Stroop test (1935). The data were interpreted using structural equations. Results: The results of the factor load showed that the convergent validity of emotional intelligence, personality traits, and mental health variables were obtained as 0.675, 0.577, and 0.762, respectively. which shows the validity of convergence of research variables. Also, the results showed that the indirect effect of personality traits with mental health with the mediating role of field dependence is -0.414 and significant at the 0.05 level (p<0.05). The indirect effect of emotional intelligence with mental health with the mediating role of field dependence is -0.243 and significant at the 0.05 level (p<0.05). Conclusion: findings confirmed the mediating effect of dependence and non-dependence on the field in the relationship between personality traits and emotional intelligence with nurses' mental health.
