Comparison of moral distress and alexithymia in male and female nurses

Abstract
Objective: The aim of this research was to investigate moral distress, and alexithymia among male and female nurses in District 6 of Tehran
Method: The study population consisted of all nurses working in hospitals in District 6 of Tehran in the year 2024. Using an exploratory approach and referencing similar previous studies, a sample size of 60 participants (30 female nurses and 30 male nurses) was determined. Participants were selected through simple random sampling and assigned to groups. The research instruments included Hamlin et al.’s Moral Distress Scale, and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (dispersion indices, frequency, and charts) and inferential statistics (multivariate analysis of variance) with SPSS version 26.
Results: The statistical analysis revealed that the significance level for moral distress, and alexithymia among male and female nurses was less than 0.05. Therefore, the research hypothesis was accepted, and the null hypothesis was rejected. Consequently, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in moral distress, and alexithymia between male and female nurses.
Conclusion: Based on the results, there are significant differences in moral distress, and alexithymia between male and female nurses in District 6 of Tehran, highlighting the importance of these findings.
