Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between irrational beliefs and dysfunctional attitudes with mediating health hardiness in psychological well-being of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis). The present study is correlational. The study population included patients with rheumatoid arthritis referred to the rheumatism ward of Baqiyatallah Hospital in Tehran. In this study, 90 people were selected as a statistical sample by available sampling method. Data collection based on Reef Psychological Welfare Questionnaire (2002); Health stubbornness, irrational beliefs of Jones (1986) and dysfunctional attitudes of Weisman and Beck (1987) were examined. Data analysis was performed using SPSS and Lisrel software. According to the results, irrational beliefs have a negative and significant effect on psychological well-being in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Irrational beliefs mediated by health stubbornness have a positive and significant effect on psychological well-being in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Dysfunctional attitudes have a significant negative effect on psychological well-being in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Also, the coefficients in the model showed that health stubbornness in patients with rheumatoid arthritis was not a mediating variable between dysfunctional attitudes and psychological well-being. Stubbornness of health has a positive and significant effect on psychological well-being in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
