Abstract

Introduction: The aim of this study was the effectiveness of schema-based couple therapy on emotional self-regulation, self-compassion and marital burnout of conflicting couples in Tehran in 2020-2019. The research method was quasi-experimental with pre-test, post-test design and follow-up with the control group. Methods: The statistical population included all conflicting couples in Tehran and the sample size included 20 people in the experimental group and 20 people in the control group who were selected by available sampling method. Measurement tools included a questionnaire of 36 difficult questions in regulating emotion Gratz and Roemer (2004), 21-item questionnaire of Pinez Marital Burnout (1996), and a 26-item self-compassion questionnaire Neff. (2003). for data analysis, repeated measures factor analysis of variance was used. Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between the mean post-test scores of conflicting couples with marital burnout, self-compassion and emotional self-regulation of the experimental and control groups in schema-based couple therapy (P = 0.001). Conclusion: There was a significant difference in schema-based couple therapy on burnout and self-compassion, and these results are consistent with all studies that show the effect of schema therapy in reducing and resolving marital conflicts.
