Abstract

Muskak is a biennial plant of the Apiaceae family, with a fixed color, dull green or bluish, with a height of about 10-30 cm, branched and hairless at the bottom. This plant has been used in traditional Iranian medicine to relieve pain and inflammation, and its antimicrobial effects have been reported against gram-positive bacteria, yeasts and some dermatophytes. The aim of this study is to investigate the antimicrobial properties of muskak ethanolic extract on important human pathogens.
Materials and Methods:
Muskak leaves will be collected from the Balochistan region. Then the samples will be dried and ground in shade and normal room temperature. Cold maceration method was used for extraction. Bacterial strains were purchased from the Iranian Fungus and Bacteria Collection Center, and the diameter of the inhibition zone was performed on bacteria by the well method.
Results:
The results of the study showed that at a concentration of 25 mg/ml, the largest diameter of the inhibitory zone against the bacteria Hafnia alvi (15 mm) and Proteus mirabilis (12 mm) was. While the smallest diameter of the inhibitory zone was against Streptococcus pyogenes (2 mm).
Discussion:
The results of the study showed the very good antimicrobial properties of the medicinal plant Muskak, which can be used in the treatment of various human infections.
