The effectiveness of the cognitive computer game Lumosity on working memory and processing speed in female elementary school students

Introduction: Cognitive computer games are a new and stimulating method for students that, in addition to being entertaining, can help them improve their cognitive functions, including processing speed, selective attention, and working memory, which are closely related to their academic success in school years.
Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the effectiveness of the Lumosity cognitive computer game on working memory and processing speed in elementary school female students.
Research Methodology: The present study was applied in terms of purpose and semi-experimental research with a control and target group in terms of method. The statistical population of the present study included all female students of Shahid Danesh Hojjati Elementary School in Rasht City. Of these, 34 female elementary school students were selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental (17 people) and control (17 people) groups. The letter-digit sorting test, Wechsler coding and symbol recognition test, and digit span test were administered to the subjects in the experimental and control groups before and after the research period.
