Introduction
Cataract is one the public health problem in the world and it is the most important cause of blindness in population. The aim of this study was to evaluatls levels of serum glucose, lipids and Antioxident in patients with cataract.
Materials and Methods
In this case-control study, we have compared serum glucose, lipids and Antioxident levels of 90 cataract patients (Case group) with 90 healthy volunteers (control group) at Birjand Valiassr hospital. Then the data entered in to SPSS software, analyzed with X2 and regression logestic at a=0.05.
Results
In two groups 50% of subjects were males. Mean age in case group was 60.2±8 years and in control group was 58.3±8.7 years (p=0.13). Mean levels of Chol, TG and LDL in case group were significantly higher than control group. The levels of hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, high glucose and low HDL in case group were higher than control group. Also, MDA and lipid peroxidation were higher in case group.
Conclusion
High glucose,dyslipidemia and low level of antioxidant may effect on cataract.Routinevaluation of serum lipids in CAD patients who suffer from diabetes mellitus is necessary, due to high prevalence of dyslipidemia in this high risk group. These findings indicate a need for health promotion activities for the control of mentioned factors.
