Abstract
Introduction: Research ethics play a crucial role in ensuring the validity and credibility of scientific studies. This study aimed to assess the level of adherence to research ethics principles among faculty members and students at Zabol University of Medical Sciences.
Material and Methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in 2023. The research population included all faculty members and students with research experience at Zabol University of Medical Sciences. Data were collected using a standardized research ethics questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 26, employing descriptive statistics and appropriate inferential tests. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to assess data normality.
Results: Overall, adherence to ethical principles was evaluated as satisfactory. However, significant differences were found between faculty members and students in areas such as accurate referencing, avoiding data bias, respecting the study population, using reliable sources, and selecting non-repetitive topics (p<0.05). The main barriers included insufficient awareness of ethical principles, lack of research skills, and limited financial resources. Facilitating factors identified were the requirement to submit a research topic by the end of the sixth semester, implementation of research ethics monitoring systems, and holding time management workshops.
Conclusion: The results of this study highlight the importance of strengthening research ethics education in academic environments. Enhancing institutional policies and increasing awareness of research ethics can improve compliance with these principles and promote scientific integrity. Further studies are recommended to identify factors influencing adherence to ethical principles in research.
