The Effectiveness of Mindfulness Skills Training on Self-Compassion and Communication Skills in Women with Parenting Burnout

Abstract

Introduction: Parenting burnout is a variable that confronts women with various psychological, social, cognitive and emotional injuries. Based on this the present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness skills training on self-compassion and communication skills in women with parenting burnout.
Methods: The statistical population of the present study included women with parenting burnout who referred to education counseling centers in Isfahan city in the summer season of 2023. In this research, 30 women with parenting burnout were selected by purposeful sampling (according to the criteria for entering the research) and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (15 women in the experimental group and 15 women in the control group). The parents of the women in the experimental group received the mindfulness skills training during eight weeks in eight 90-minute sessions. Self-Compassion Questionnaire (SCQ), Parental Burnout Questionnaire (PBQ) and Communication Skills Questionnaire (CSQ) were used in the present study. The data were analyzed through mixed ANOVA via SPSS23 software.
Results:  The results showed that mindfulness skills training has significant effect on the self-compassion (p<0001) and communication skills (p<0001) in the women with parenting burnout.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present research, mindfulness skills training by performing mindfulness exercises, gaining awareness of the present time, gaining awareness of the five main senses of the body, gaining awareness of emotions and applying mindfulness in daily life can The title used an efficient method to improve the self-compassion and communication skills of women with parenting burnout.
