Abstract

Introduction: Obsessive-compulsive disorder includes obsessive and compulsive actions that are time-consuming and cause great suffering to the patient and those around them. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction on rumination and perfectionism in women with obsessions.
Method: The present research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. 32 people were selected from the population of all women suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder referring to the psychological clinics of the 1st district of Tehran, using the available sampling method, and using random replacement, they were replaced into two experimental and control groups. Thus, first the questionnaires of rumination (Nolen Hoeksma and Maro, 1999) and perfectionism (Hale et al., 2004) were administered as a pre-test, then the experimental group underwent a stress reduction intervention based on mindfulness for 10 sessions of 90 minutes. and at the end of both groups, a post-test was performed and the research data was analyzed using covariance.
Results: The covariance results showed that mindfulness-based stress reduction has an effect on reducing rumination (F=33.546) and perfectionism (F=38.324) in women with OCD (p ≥001).
Conclusion: Mindfulness-based stress reduction is effective in improving rumination and perfectionism in women with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and it is suggested to use this method to improve psychological problems.
