Introduction: Problems in relation to marital intimacy in depressed individuals are considered a fundamental problem in couples' relationships. The aim of this study was to investigate modeling marital intimacy based on forgiveness and marital satisfaction mediated by personality traits in married women with depressive symptoms.
Methods: The present research method was descriptive-correlational of structural equations type. The statistical population of the study included married women with depressive symptoms referring to psychological centers and health services affiliated with the Welfare and Psychological System Organization of Tehran Province in 2024, and 200 people who scored higher than 29 on the Beck et al. (1996) Depression Questionnaire were selected for the research sample through purposive sampling. To collect data, depression questionnaires (Beck et al., 1996), marital intimacy (Bagarozzi, 2001), forgiveness scale (Pollard & Anderson, 1998), marital satisfaction questionnaire (Olson, 19985) and Big Five personality questionnaire (Goldberg, 1999) were used.
Results: The findings showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between forgiveness, marital satisfaction and personality traits and components of extraversion, openness to experience, responsibility and conscientiousness with marital intimacy and a negative and significant relationship between neuroticism and marital intimacy (P<0.01). Also, marital intimacy is predicted based on forgiveness and marital satisfaction with mediation of personality traits in married women with depressive symptoms.
Conclusion: Given the favorable fit of the model, it is suggested that this study be used to identify factors related to marital intimacy in married individuals with depressive symptoms.
