Objective: The present study was conducted to evaluate the association of SOFA score after heart surgery with prognosis of patients.
Methods: This study was performed on 100 patients admitted to the intensive care unit by convenience sampling method. All grades of the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score range are 0 to 24. Patients with higher score have higher mortality rate. The checklist parameters for each patient were assessed on a daily basis and the status of six vital organs of the body (heart, blood, liver, kidney, respiration, central nervous system) was examined and recorded on check list. Patients’ hospital and ICU staying times were recorded too.
Results: The results of the evaluation of the performance of the SOFA scoring system showed; the best cut point for the SOFA 11.5 (sensitivity 96.3% and 88%) was obtained. Rock 0.985 was 0.985 with a confidence interval of 0.963 and 1.00, indicating high and significant accuracy and accuracy of the SOFA scoring system in predicting mortality. The results showed that the score of the sofa scoring system have high and appropriate mortality predicting calibration value (x2=0.934, P=0.999).
Conclusion: SOFA scoring system has high accuracy, high sensitivity and specificity in predicting mortality after cardiac surgery in ICU.
