the main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the activity of behavioral brain systems and pain intensity by emphasizing the mediating role of emotional distress in patients with chronic pain.
Methods: In order to conduct this research, which was a descriptive-correlational research method based on path analysis and structural equations, 200 patients with chronic pain, who in the period from winter of 1399 to spring of 1400 to specialized clinics and offices of neurologists And the nerves of Zahedan, were referred, and were selected by non-random and available sampling method. Participants were assessed using research tools including the Jackson Questionnaire, the Toronto Emotional Dysfunction Scale (TAS-20), and the Van Korf et al. (1992) Pain Scale. Then, the data were analyzed using path analysis method, based on SPSS22 AMOS-21 software.
Results: The results show that the dimensions of the behavioral brain system have a significant relationship with pain intensity. So that it had an inverse and significant relationship with the behavior activation system and had a positive and significant relationship with the deterrence and warfare system. Emotional malaise also mediates the relationship between the war-escape-freezing system and pain intensity.
Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, there is a positive and significant relationship between behavioral inhibition system and emotional malaise and pain intensity. However, no significant relationship was found between pain intensity and behavioral activation component
