Introduction: The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy on the defense styles and emotional processing of women suffering from separation anxiety.
Methods: The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all women suffering from separation anxiety who referred to counseling clinics in the 2nd district of Tehran in 1402. Among these people, 30 people were selected by available sampling method and according to the entry and exit criteria, and they were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group (15 people in each group). The research tools included the Anders Defensive Style Questionnaire (DSQ-40), Mani Kawasgar's Adult Separation Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire, and Baker's Emotional Processing Questionnaire. The experimental group received the intensive and short-term psychodynamic program (Fredrickson, 2020; Abbas, 2015; Fredrickson, 2013) in 8 sessions of 90 minutes, and the control group received regular daily training. Data analysis was done by using SPSS-24 software and multivariate covariance analysis test, following statistical assumptions.
Results: The results showed that intensive and short-term psychodynamics is significantly effective on defensive styles and emotional processing (p<0.05).
Conclusion: According to the results of the research, defensive styles and emotional processing can be helped through intensive and short-term psychodynamics.
