Introduction: online game addiction today is one of the main threats to teenagers mental health. Research has shown than there is a high correlation betweeen educational procrastination and online game addiction. the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of Motivational Interview on educational procrastination and online game addiction of adolescents.
Methods: The research method was semi-experimental with a “pre-test, post-test” design and with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all high school students from Tehran’s the 2th district of department of Education in 2024. Among these adolescents, 30 people were selected in a purposeful way and according to the entry criteria, and they were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group (15 people in each group). Research tools included Solomon's Educational Procrastination Questionarie and Online Game Addiction Index. The experimental group received the Motivational Interview program in 5 60-minute sessions. Data analysis was done using SPSS-26 software and Multiple Analysis of Covariance test, after considering statistical assumptions.
Results: The results of the multivariate covariance test showed that there is a significant difference between the Motivational Interview group and the control group in a combination of variables of educational procrastination and online game addiction (F=45/72 and P<0/5). Also, the results of Bonferoni's post hoc test showed that the average of the group receiving the Motivational Interview program is significantly less than the average of the control group in both the variable of educational procrastination and online game addiction (P<0/05).
Conclusion: According to the results of the research, it can be said that the Motivational Interview can be an effective treatment for educational procrastination and online game addiction of adolescents.
