Introduction: The present study was conducted to compare personality traits and brain-behavioral systems between homosexuals and normal individuals.
Methods: The present study was fundamental in terms of its purpose and causal-comparative in terms of its data collection method. The statistical population of this study included two groups of homosexuals and normal individuals. The samples included 38 people (21 normal individuals and 17 homosexuals) who were generally selected using convenience and snowball sampling methods. The tools used in this study included the Milon 3 multiaxial questionnaire and the Gary Wilson initial personality questionnaire. After collection, the data were analyzed using the SPSS computer software. Descriptive statistics (mean, variance, standard deviation, etc.) were calculated for each of the compared groups, and ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests were used to test for statistical significance. The findings showed that there was a significant difference between some personality dimensions between the two societies.
Results: Comparison of brain-behavioral systems also showed that there was a significant difference between the two societies in the dimensions of passive avoidance, silence, fighting, and escape. In the homosexual community, this difference was different in the dimensions of passive avoidance, silence, and fighting, and was more common in the homosexual community.
Conclusion: The results of this and other studies showed that homosexual people may experience more mental health problems, which, although a function of genetics and differences in the biological structure of the brain, is mainly the result of social influences such as stigma and discrimination.
