Nano drug carriers in nanotechnology can create a significant transformation in targeted drug delivery and overcoming the body's biological barriers. Nanotechnology is rapidly developing in the pharmaceutical field; for example, nanoparticles can be used as drug delivery systems. Nanotechnology can help overcome drug delivery limitations such as bio-distribution and cellular entry. This can be achieved by targeting cells, molecular transport to specific organelles, and other approaches. In this study, data from numerous scientific research articles available in electronic databases were used to examine the topic of improving drug properties using nanoparticles.
Findings: Drug-carrying nanoparticles include various materials such as nanopolymers, dendrimers, lipids, nanoemulsions, and solid lipid nanoparticles, which can have different shapes and sizes depending on their production and synthesis methods. Currently, nanoencapsulation technology is used to enhance stability, targeting, and controlled release timing of essential oils in the body using nanoparticles. One of the benefits of targeted drug delivery is the precise and intelligent accumulation of essential oil as a drug at the target site, resulting in increased stability and pharmacological effects of the essential oil compounds on the target tissue in the body. Essential oil-loaded nanocapsules have significantly increased the efficiency of essential oils in pharmaceutical and medical applications.
