Introduction: People with obsessive-compulsive personality disorder experience many psychological problems that can reduce their distress tolerance. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of self-coherence, differentiation and religious orientation in predicting distress tolerance in people with obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.
Methodology: This research was descriptive and correlational. The statistical population of the present study included all the people who referred to public and private counseling centers in Tehran in 2022, among them based on the Millon 3 Multiaxial Questionnaire cut-off (score above 60) and the client's therapist's diagnosis of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. 350 people were selected as the research sample using available sampling method. The research tools include Millon 's Multiaxial Clinical Questionnaire-3 Distress Tolerance Scale (Simons & Gaher, 2005), Psychological Coherence Scale(Antonovsky, 1993), Self-Differentiation Test. (Skowron & Friedlander, 1998) and the religious orientation scale (ROS) (Allport & Ross, 1950).
Results: In order to analyze the data, Pearson's correlation test and multiple linear regression were used simultaneously. The results have shown that there is a positive and significant relationship between self-cohesion and internal religious orientation with distress tolerance and a negative and significant relationship between differentiation and external religious orientation with distress tolerance (P<0.01). Also, the results of the regression analysis showed that self-coherence, differentiation and religious orientation explain distress tolerance in total of 0.72
Conclusion: These findings indicate the importance of paying attention to self-coherence, differentiation and religious orientation in predicting distress tolerance and its effect on obsessive-compulsive personality disorder symptoms.
