Introduction: The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between self-efficacy, procrastination, responsibility, and academic achievement in male adolescents in the first year of high school. The method of the present study was descriptive-correlational and of applied purpose.
Methods: The statistical population of the present study consisted of male students in the first year of high school in District 4 of Tehran who were studying in the academic year 1403-1404. The sampling method of the present study was available; the initial sample size was 367 people using the Morgan table. 350 students were included as the final sample size in the study. The data collection tools of the present study included self-efficacy questionnaires (Sherr et al., 1982), procrastination (Tuckman, 2001), responsibility (Lewis, 2001), and academic achievement (Pham and Taylor, 1990). The data analysis method of the present study was descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation coefficient and simple linear regression), which was performed using SPSS software version 27.
Results: The results of the study showed that self-efficacy had an inverse, moderate and significant relationship with procrastination (r=-0.377; Sig=0.000) and with responsibility (r=0.410; Sig=0.000) and academic achievement (r=0.394; Sig=0.000). There was a positive, moderate and significant relationship. Regression analysis showed that self-efficacy was 14.2 percent (β=-0.377; P<0.05), 16.8 percent (β=0.410; P<0.05) and 15.5 percent (β=0.394; P<0.05), respectively. explained the variance of procrastination, responsibility, and academic achievement, and all prediction models were significant.
Conclusion: These results indicate the prominent role of self-efficacy in reducing procrastination and promoting responsibility and academic achievement.
