Introduction: With aging, numerous physiological changes occur in the visual system, leading to decreased visual function and visual acuity. This study aimed to investigate the effect of eight weeks of aerobic eye movement exercises on visual acuity in elderly individuals.
Methods: This quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design was conducted on 40 healthy elderly individuals (aged 65-75 years). Participants were randomly divided into experimental (n=20) and control (n=20) groups. The experimental group performed aerobic eye movement exercises in different directions for 8 weeks, 3 sessions per week, each lasting 45 minutes. Visual acuity was measured using the Snellen chart before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA and independent t-test.
Results: The results showed that aerobic eye movement exercises significantly improved visual acuity in the experimental group (p<0.05). The mean visual acuity score in the experimental group improved from 20/40 to 20/30, while no significant change was observed in the control group.
Conclusion: Regular aerobic eye movement exercises can be used as a non-invasive and effective intervention to improve visual acuity in elderly individuals.
