Objective: Externalizing disorders weaken parent-child interaction and children's self-esteem. An integrated program based on developmental parenting and a shared behavioral model can be an effective solution to reduce these problems and improve family relationships. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an integrated program based on developmental parenting and a shared behavioral model on parent-child interaction and self-esteem of children with externalizing disorders. Materials and Methods: The research method was a semi-experimental one with a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up design with a control group and a statistical population of mothers with primary school children with externalizing disorders who referred to Aftabgaran Specialized Clinic in Tehran. The sample size included 30 mothers (15 in the experimental group and 15 in the control group) who were selected using convenience sampling from Aftabgaran Specialized Clinic in Tehran. Data collection tools included Pianta's Parent-Child Interaction Questionnaire (1994) and Azizi Moghadam's Self-Esteem Questionnaire (2007). Covariance analysis with repeated measures was used to analyze the data. Results: The results showed that teaching an integrated program based on developmental parenting and a shared behavioral model had a significant and sustainable effect on parent-child interaction components (reducing conflict and dependence and increasing intimacy) and self-esteem components (social self-esteem, academic self-esteem, family self-esteem, and physical self-esteem). Conclusion: Therapists can use an integrated program based on developmental parenting and shared behavioral patterns to treat behavioral disorders in children.
