Introduction: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of 6 weeks of treadmill exercise combined with genistein on iNOS and Cdc2 gene expression in Balb/C mice with breast cancer.
Methods: In this basic, experimental study, which was conducted on 40 female Balb/C mice, after induction of breast cancer, the mice were randomly divided into 4 groups of 10: cancer mice, cancer mice with a treadmill exercise period, cancer mice with genistein supplementation, and cancer mice with a treadmill exercise period and genistein supplementation. Oral gavage of genistein supplement between 100 and 150 microliters was performed, 5 days a week, for six weeks. Treadmill exercise was performed at a speed of 20 meters per minute, 0% incline for 30 minutes per day, 5 times a week for 6 weeks. Two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures was used to analyze the data.
Results: The results showed that the main effect of treadmill exercise and the main effect of genistein supplementation on gene expression in female Balb/C mice after induction of breast cancer were statistically significant (P < 0.05).
Conclusion: Exercise and genistein intake effectively prevent cancer progression by reducing iNOS and CDC-2 gene expression in Balb/C mice induced with breast cancer.
