[English]

Introduction: Self-care plays a crucial role in the treatment and prevention of symptom relapse in multiple sclerosis. several factors play a role in the self-care behaviors of patients. By understanding these factors, patients can be helped in managing and preventing disease relapse. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of identifying the factors influencing self-care behaviors in patients with multiple sclerosis.
Methods: In this review study, quantitative and qualitative articles were examined in Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Springer databases using keywords such as multiple sclerosis, self-care, self-management, and their English equivalents in the relevant databases. No date restrictions were applied. Published studies in English and Persian related to self-care behaviors and adaptation of MS patients were considered as inclusion criteria for the study. Articles with irrelevant content to the study, review articles, and letters to the editor were also considered exclusion criteria.
Results: In the literature review, 29 studies related to the factors influencing self-care behaviors focused on the concepts surrounding six factors: social support, health literacy, personality traits, cognitive functions, self-efficacy, and motivation.
Conclusion: Based on the results, the combination of these factors in a comprehensive and multifaceted approach can help patients with multiple sclerosis face the challenges of their condition more effectively and improve their quality of life. To achieve this goal, education, social support, and individualized treatment programs must work together to help the patient make the best use of their abilities.
