Introduction: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on emotion regulation and self-control in parents of aggressive children.
Methods: The research method was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test-follow-up design with a control group. The statistical population consisted of aggressive mothers and their children who had referred to counseling centers in Tehran in 1405. Using non-random sampling available and based on power analysis, 30 people were selected and randomly assigned to two experimental groups (15 people) and control groups (15 people). The research tools included emotion regulation skills (Gratz and Roemer), self-control (Tanji et al.), and aggression (Novaco). The experimental group underwent 8 90-minute sessions of cognitive behavioral group therapy (based on the Leahy et al. protocol), while the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were collected in three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up (three months) and analyzed using the mixed repeated measures analysis of variance method in SPSS-26 software.
