This study aimed to investigate the relationship between motor function and indicators of balance, muscle strength, and muscular endurance in CrossFit athletes. The research design was descriptive-correlational and applied, and the sample consisted of at least 60 eligible athletes aged 20 to 30 years. Motor function was assessed using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS 9+), and balance was evaluated using the Upper and Lower Quarter Y Balance Tests. The data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation coefficient.
The results showed a significant positive relationship between the total FMS 9+ score and the total Y Balance scores of both the upper and lower limbs. In a more detailed analysis, some components of the FMS 9+ were significantly associated with upper-limb balance, including the push-up, deep squat, and shoulder mobility tests, although these correlations were weak. In contrast, the relationship between the FMS 9+ and lower-limb balance was significant for several components, including the push-up, deep squat, straight leg raise, single-leg squat, and straight leg lower tests, and these correlations were reported as moderate to good.
Overall, the findings indicated that better motor function is associated with improved balance, greater limb strength, and better endurance of the core stabilizing muscles in CrossFit athletes. Accordingly, coaches and specialists in this field are advised to focus on improving movement patterns, balance, strength, and core endurance to enhance performance and possibly help prevent future injuries.
