Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of emotion-focused couple therapy on reducing irrational beliefs and emotional divorce of married women.
Methods: The statistical population consisted of all married women in district 4 of Tehran in 1396 who referred to counseling centers. The sampling method was available. Initially, 200 married women between 25 and 40 years of age who referred to counseling centers in Tehran District 4 due to marital dissatisfaction were administered the Jones Unreasonable Beliefs Questionnaire (1968) and the Affective Divorce of Mohammadi et al. (2015) and among those who tested Irrational beliefs and emotional divorce had a high score, 40 people were selected and randomly divided into two equal experimental and control groups. Then the experimental group received 10 sessions of independent variable emotional therapy and the control group received no treatment. At the end of the sessions, questionnaires of irrational beliefs and emotional divorce were completed by individuals in each group.
Results The results of data analysis through covariance test showed that emotion-focused couple therapy reduced marital beliefs and emotional divorce of married women.
Conclusion: It seems that counseling before marriage and its continuation after marriage can be effective in reducing emotional divorce.
