Abstract
Introduction: According to unofficial statistics, methamphetamine consumption in Iran is ranked as the second or third most commonly used substance abuse. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of positive treatment on self-injurious behaviors and negative emotions in men with opiate dependence.
Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental with pre- and post-test and follow up with control group. The statistical population consisted of all men with glasses referring to Karaj province TC center in autumn 2019. Samples were selected by convenience sampling (40 males) and were randomly divided into experimental (n = 20) and control (n = 20) groups. The pre-test phase, the questionnaire of self-harming behaviors and the short form of the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS-21) were used. Then the experimental group received 8 sessions of positive treatment and the control group did not receive any intervention. At the end both groups underwent posttest and follow up period (3 months). Multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) was used for data analysis.
Results: There was a significant difference between experimental and control groups after treatment. The mean score of negative self-injurious behaviors and negative emotions in the experimental group was lower than the control group (P <0.001(.
Conclusion: According to the findings, it can be concluded that positive therapy is effective on self-injurious behaviors and negative emotions in men with opiate dependence.
